Swiss healthcare company Roche has promoted Sarah Ridout to the
newly created role of UK corporate affairs director in an overhaul of
the company’s PR practices.
Reporting to MD Vic Ackerman, Ridout has been charged with consolidating
communications across Roche’s five divisions - pharmaceuticals,
diagnostics, consumer health, vitamins, and flavours and fragrances.
Ridout will head a team of four PR officers. ’The company is heavily
divisionalised and we realised, following sponsorship of the Millennium
Dome, that we needed a consistent corporate message across the
divisions,’ she said.
Roche is sponsoring the Body Zone at the Dome alongside Boots the
Chemists and L’Oreal.
Ridout joined Roche in 1990, from Italian rival Serona Pharmaceuticals,
as a member of the regulatory affairs team. She was then promoted to
medical affairs director for the pharmaceutical business which included
a ’significant PR role’.
The company leads the UK market in the medical diagnostics and flavours
and fragrances sectors and is ranked ninth largest pharmaceutical
company in the world.
Last year it recorded its best ever results boosted by the launch of an
anti-obesity drug, Xenical, which hinders the body from absorbing fat.
