The announcement that the EHRC will face cuts of around £7m from its £60m budget forms the latest of the coalition government's austerity measures.
The cuts to the equalities watchdog have forced it to review its staffing, marketing and programme of grants to combat discrimination.
A spokesman said the cuts would have an impact on the quango's PR activities, particularly its events. Temporary comms staff may also be cut.
Director general of the commission Neil Kinghan said: 'Like other public bodies the commission has brought in measures including a freeze in spending on advertising, marketing, consultancies and freezing recruitment apart from important frontline and business critical areas. We are also significantly cutting the number of temporary staff.'
Kinghan added the commission had already started reviewing the organisation's structure. The result will be announced in the autumn.
The EHRC's group director of comms Richard Emmott heads up a comms team of five. It does not currently use any PR agencies.
