INTERNATIONAL: AOL Europe names public affairs head for Germany

HAMBURG: AOL Europe has appointed Gunnar Bender as head of public affairs for German-speaking markets.

HAMBURG: AOL Europe has appointed Gunnar Bender as head of public

affairs for German-speaking markets.



Bender is responsible for governmental affairs in three European markets

- Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In the newly-created position,

Bender will work across two AOL brands - AOL and CompuServe. Bender

reports to Clare Gilbert, vice-president for AOL Europe.



Prior to joining AOL, Bender lectured at the Institute for Information,

Telecommunications and Media Law at the University of Munster.



Within Germany, Bender has a reputation as an expert on media

politics.



He was also a founder of TKR-Newsletter, a publication dealing with

legal questions in new media.



Frank Sarfeld, head of communications for AOL Europe, said: ’In Gunnar

Bender we have one of the few experts in internet and telecommunications

law at our disposal.’



AOL Europe’s multiple brands now reach more than 3.8 million households

across Europe. AOL Europe is a joint venture between AOL Inc. and German

media group Bertelsmann AG.
