Coral enlists B-M to expand on-line betting audience

Coral International, the UK’s third-largest bookmaker, has

appointed Burson-Marsteller to handle PR for its internet betting arm

Eurobet.

B-M’s remit covers internal and external global communications,

including consumer PR and brand positioning. Its appointment is part of

a multi-million pound investment in Eurobet, which was acquired by Coral

in November last year.

Based on current high ratings of internet businesses, Coral could be

valued as high as pounds 1 billion.

The timing also coincides with the Euro 2000 football tournament which

should attract many new punters. The aim is to make the site widely

known in time for the tournament in June.

Deborah Saw, managing director and UK practice leader for B-M’s

marketing practice said: ’With global internet betting revenues expected

to grow to pounds 12.5 billion by 2004, B-M’s role is to ensure that

Eurobet becomes the number one choice for anyone who wants to place a

bet.’

Saw is leading the account, reporting to Trevor Beaumont, Coral’s

managing director, and also liaising with Steve Finnemore, director of

marketing.

Coral retains Citigate Dewe Rogerson for its financial and corporate

PR.

Eurobet was the first bookmaker to accept on-line bets from across the

world at its offices in Gibraltar, and now takes more than 120,000 bets

a week.
