Ogilvy PR Worldwide has appointed a new president of European

operations following the departure of Paul Philpotts last December.

Nick May, Edelman PR’s director of healthcare, will assume the post in

early April, after two years at the agency.

Reporting directly to Bob Seltzer, Ogilvy PR’s president and CEO, May

will co-ordinate the agency’s further expansion into Europe and its

acquisition of speciality firms to increase its global reach.

According to the company, he will also co-operate with WPP siblings

Ogilvy and Mather, CommonHealth, Ogilvy Interactive and OgilvyOne to

provide integrated marketing.

May has 26 years’ experience in the industry, with special emphasis on

healthcare. Prior to Edelman, he spent seven years at Burson-Marsteller,

where he became European director of healthcare in 1996.

He is currently co-chair of the annual Economist International

Healthcare Conference, held in London in May.

Philpotts, Ogilvy’s former European president, left the agency for

Square Mile, after less than two years in the role (PR Week 10 December,

1999).

- Ogilvy has also appointed a new healthcare director. David Avitabile

joins from healthcare agency Interscience. Avitabile will work on

Ogilvy’s international and UK healthcare accounts, as well as developing

new business. He reports to European healthcare MD Tom Delaney, bringing

the number of staff to eight in the healthcare division
