Warwickshire Constabulary has appointed Alison Parr as its first
head of media and PR.
Parr, who joins from Staffordshire University where she was head of
media relations, heads a new four-strong department and expects to
appoint more staff shortly. She reports to assistant chief constable
Peter Furnace and is responsible for press relations, sponsorship,
marketing and internal communications.
The PR function was previously split between different departments,
including strategic planning, which handled some publications and the
business initiatives unit, which handled some marketing.
Warwickshire’s PR agenda includes addressing the Crime and Disorder Act,
which encourages police forces to develop partnerships with local
authorities to promote community safety. Parr will also look at lobbying
Government for greater funding.
She said: ’My job is to maximise the good work which has been going on
here and see how we can support the aims of the police service.’
