Almost one-third of the UK population doesn’t know what PR is, a
study has found.
Despite 28 per cent having no idea what it involves, 24 per cent of
16- to 24-year-olds said they would like to work in PR. The industry
suffers from perception problems: 39 per cent of respondents thought PR
people simply go out to lunch at someone else’s expense.
A poll of 1,000 consumers by market research organisation Audience
Selection found that Sophie Rhys-Jones is the best known PR
professional, with 65 per cent of those polled recognising that she
worked in the industry.
The study was commissioned by Rosalyn Palmer PR. Associate director
Nigel Lawrence said: ’Further work needs to be done to clarify what our
industry is about.’
