The Association of Professional Political Consultants (APPC) has
chosen Steve Bramall, deputy managing director of specialist transport
lobbying agency the Waterfront Partnership, as its new secretary.
Bramall takes over from Charles Miller, who resigned last month after a
knife-edge vote ousted the association’s founding chairman, Andrew
Gifford, in favour of Michael Burrell (PR Week, 28 May). Bramall cast
his vote in favour of Gifford.
Bramall was selected by the APPC’s four-strong management committee on a
one-year basis. Another candidate put forward for the post was Shandwick
public affairs director Jon McLeod.
Bramall’s appointment was announced to members at an APPC meeting on
Burrell said: ’I’m delighted Steve has agreed to take over from Charles,
as he heads a smaller consultancy. It’s very important that the APPC is
seen to represent the interests of members - both small and large.’
As secretary, Bramall will oversee the running of the association,
including organising meetings and taking minutes. He will be a member of
the association’s nine-strong management committee.
The APPC also asked management committee member Andrew Dunlop to examine
the possibility of setting up an independent, paid secretariat which -
were it to be set up - would take over after Bramall’s year in office.
