BUENOS AIRES: Argentina’s PR market is set to change in coming

weeks with GCI and BSMG both closing in on acquisitions in the

country.

After failing to complete a deal with three potential candidates last

year, GCI is in talks to acquire Personally. Headed by Alicia von der

Wettern and Laura Palermo, the agency works for Pepsi and IBM and boasts

annual fees of more than pounds 600,000. Personally has also handled

media relations in the past for GCI parent Grey Advertising.

GCI was close to acquiring Muchnik, Alurralde, Jasper & Asociados in

January, but the Argentine firm chose instead to sell a stake to

Manning, Selvage and Lee. Talks with two other agencies, GM

Comunicaciones and Goldenberg, have proved fruitless.

Meanwhile BSMG has targeted MP&M, a top-ten agency whose clients include

Telefonica. Headed by Julio Suaya, MP&M took fees in 1999 of pounds 2

million.
