Sports car manufacturer Porsche GB is looking to recruit a
corporate communications manager following James Pillar’s move to car
retailer Virgin Cars.
The appointee will take on the responsibility of managing the Porsche
brand and all the public faces of the company - from press relations
through to customer magazines and events.
Porsche PRO Natalie Savage has been in charge of the company’s PR since
Pillar’s departure at the end of April.
’The recruitment process is in place and we hope to have someone in the
near future, but I am covering in the mean time,’ she said.
The sports car giant is hoping to recruit externally for Pillar’s
Pillar left Porsche after six years with the firm to join Virgin Cars’
recently launched on and off-line car sales venture. His role with
Virgin will be to raise awareness of its internet car-buying service and
to begin developing an in-house PR team.
Pillar said: ’Until now Virgin has been concentrating mainly on the
launch, but my objective is to continue raising awareness of the Virgin
Cars proposition. I’m a great believer in the power of the in-house PR
team, although it is still early days,’ he said.
Virgin Cars uses one external agency, motor specialist Harrison Sadler,
on a press relations brief.
Pillar, who previously worked with car manufacturer TVR managing its
public relations and motor sports activity, reports to Porsche sales and
marketing director John Hillier.
Virgin Cars is Richard Branson’s launch into the fast expanding
net-based car import industry. The company aims to offer cars direct
from the manufacturer at up to 40 per cent less than existing prices,
via the internet and by phone or fax.
