August. One Communications is set to become one of the first
consultancies in the world to introduce a mobile phone internet service.
The agency is launching the wireless application protocol (WAP) service
to make information accessible to clients, staff and press, anytime and
anywhere in the world.
Information will be immediately accessible through the WAP site while on
the move, and without a landline or a PC.
According to Robert Grupe, head of August. One’s digital services, the
aim in launching the service now is to remain ahead of the majority of
PR agencies as WAP technology takes off.
’This service will complement what everyone already has in their bags
and pockets,’ he said. ’Right now people have to go back to their
offices to pick up information, but with this they can access it
Over the next year, August. One is planning to provide WAP services to
clients, journalists and staff, including delivering real-time
announcements, contact details and documents. The consultancy hopes the
new WAP service will complement its existing web site rather than
Grupe said: ’The service will give people easy and immediate access to
information and then for further background details, or pictures or
audio clips, they can access our web site.’
