National commercial radio station Talk Sport is on the verge of

handing public affairs consultancy GPC a watching brief in the run-up to

the publication later this year of the Government’s Communications White

Paper.

The station, which was relaunched last January by its owner, The

Wireless Group, is understood to have made a decision to bring GPC on

board late last week.

The agency is tasked with keeping the station - which reaches 2.5

million listeners each week, according to the latest figures - informed

of events as the white paper is put together. The document, being

compiled by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of

Culture, Media and Sport, is scheduled for late autumn.

The head of GPC’s media industries practice David Sowells will head the

account, reporting directly to Wireless Group chairman and CEO Kelvin

MacKenzie.

GPC MD Peter Bingle declined to confirm the agency had been appointed,

or to comment on the brief.
