Cadbury Schweppes has hired The Maitland Consultancy on estimated

fees of pounds 100,000 to handle its financial press and PR. The account

was awarded following a four-way pitch, including Brunswick, Finsbury,

and incumbent Financial Dynamics.

Cadbury Schweppes decided to repitch the account after FD deputy

chairman George Welham announced he was retiring at the end of June.

Head of group PR, Dora McCabe, said: ’We felt that with George retiring,

it was time to take a look around and review what was on the

market.’

Welham has handled the account for the past 15 years through three

different PR agencies: Gavin Anderson, Burson-Marsteller and FD.

’I’ve seen a lot of management changes in the 15 years I’ve been with

Cadbury. I’ve worked with three or four different CEOs and five

financial directors,’ said Welham.

At Maitland, the account will be headed by chairman Angus Maitland.

Cadbury, which merged with Schweppes in 1969, currently has over 30 per

cent of the UK confectionery market and sells more than 250 million

Dairy Milk bars each year.

The company’s key international beverage brands include Dr Pepper,

Schweppes, Crush and Sunkist, alongside leading confectionary brands

such as Roses and Creme Eggs.
