WASHINGTON: Shandwick is in discussions to buy Westminster Strategy
affiliate Cassidy and Associates, an acquisition that would make the
firm one of the top public affairs players in the US.
Shandwick public affairs president David Krawitz refused to disclose the
status of negotiations. ’We’re talking to a lot of people right now,’ he
said. Dale Leibach, MD of Cassidy subsidiary Powell Tate, added:
’Discussions are continuing. There is no deal at this point, nor is
there any guarantee that there will be.’
Cassidy’s holdings include public affairs specialist Powell Tate;
polling firm Frederick Schneiders Research; Boland and Madigan, a
government relations agency; and Bork and Associates, a litigation
communications firm. Should the deal be finalised, each agency (except
Powell, which would be absorbed into Shandwick public affairs ) would
continue to operate under its own name.
Shandwick Public Affairs, formed in 1994, is relatively new to DC and
would clearly benefit from the addition of Powell Tate, ranked third in
the Harris/Impulse survey of PR clients.
