(saving) On expenses - Tom's Terrace, Somerset House

Reviewer: Danny Rogers, editor, PRWeek

- What is it good for?

Now that summer's finally here, this recently-opened 'pop-up-style' eaterie overlooking the River Thames is one of the best settings for al fresco dining in central London. Replacing the former Admiralty Restaurant, this outlet mirrors the concept and cuisine of Tom's Kitchen in Chelsea.

- Signature dishes?

This is upmarket barbecue food. Caesar salad, steak sandwiches with truffle chips and Eton Mess to follow.

- Who's the boss?

It is a joint venture between Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens and Compass Group.

- Tips please?

On a typically chilly English summer night, make sure you wear an extra jumper and sit under one of the central heaters. The chicken liver and Fois Gras parfait is a winning starter, washed down with the house Chianti Classico.

- What's the damage?

Tom's Kitchen Tasting Board is £14 per person with a minimum of two sharing. Mains range from £14.50 to £17.50. House wines from £5 per glass.

Tom's Terrace, Somerset House, Strand, London WC2R 0RN. 020 7845 4646.
