During an exclusive interview with US chat-show host Oprah Winfrey on Tuesday, Sarah Ferguson said she had been drinking and was 'in the gutter'. She had apologised publicly for the scandal, admitting she 'deeply regretted' the incident after the News of the World published the story last week.
HOW I SEE IT

The Duchess' appearance on US chat show Oprah was the wrong way to handle this; she should have addressed the British public, because it is the Royal Family she has brought into disrepute - not her American fan base. Most Brits will now have to rely on the media's interpretation of what was said rather than viewing it for themselves.
The most publicised clip of her saying she was 'drunk' is an excuse and a feeble attempt to legitimise her actions. As a figure in the public eye, she should have held her hands up, excuse-free, and admitted she had made a mistake. For how many more faux pas can the Duchess be forgiven? Only time will tell if Brand Fergie can bounce back from this on both a personal and business level. Perhaps she should listen to her advisers - if she has any.
