Opinion: From our Readers - Bring back proper investigative news

Following the recent media stories exposing Lord Triesman and the Duchess of York, my hope is that this obsession with these types of 'sting' operations will subside and we can see some proper investigative journalism again.

Alexander Lebedev, new owner of The Independent and the Evening Standard, has announced his intention to build a global network which could involve Germany's Der Spiegel magazine, The New York Times and The Guardian - as well as Lebedev's British and Russian titles, which include Novaya Gazeta.

This is fantastic news. There should always be a place for true investigative journalism that creates and breaks real news in the public interest.
