South Ayrshire councillors have labelled their own PR team as 'control freaks' who cannot keep bad news from the press. The outburst came as the council's committee discussed a new comms strategy, the Ayrshire Post reported. Among the key objectives are ways to ensure better media coverage.

BBC Journalism head of comms John Shield has been appointed director of corporate affairs at public transport firm Go-Ahead. Shield has held a range of positions in the civil service, including director of comms for the Department of Communities and Local Government, and head of news for the Department of Education. He was also a senior press officer in 10 Downing Street.

Digital UK, the BBC-backed body in charge of digital switchover, has selected Brahm to oversee a PR campaign in Yorkshire and the North East after a four-way tender. The campaign is aimed at increasing awareness of the digital switchover, which will affect 10 million viewers across the region in 2011-12. It will launch this August, one year from the start of switchover in the area.
