Utilities spell boom for City PR firms

City PR firms have again been called on to assist with the latest round

of bidding in the utilities sector. Southern Electric, which announced

its intention to top Scottish Power’s pounds 1.6 billion bid for

Southern Water, is being advised by retained agency Citigate. Scottish

Power and Southern Water use Brunswick and Hudson Sandler respectively.

Dudley Fishburn snapped up by Cordiant

Dudley Fishburn, a former consultant for Fishburn Hedges and Tory MP for

Kensington, has been recruited by advertising giant Cordiant as a non-

executive director. Fishburn, who steps down at the next election, left

FH at the end of last year following publication of the Nolan Report. FH

chairman Dale Fishburn rejected suggestions that his brother’s

appointment by Cordiant would cause any conflict with the PR agency,

which is owned by advertising rival Abbott Mead Vickers.

Shandwick wins US energy campaign

Shandwick Communications’ London office is to manage an estimated pounds

65,000-fee global media relations and corporate reputation campaign for

US energy giant Babcock and Wilcox. The agency was appointed without a

formal pitch, although the company, which is part of American-based

McDermott International, is believed to have had discussions in New York

with Burson-Marsteller and Edelman.

Financial Dynamics to reveal BDDP deal

City PR firm Financial Dynamics is expected to announce details of a new

deal with parent company BDDP following final earn-out payments to eight

of its directors last week. Meanwhile it emerged that chairman Tony Knox

is recovering after a heart operation last week. He is described as

being ‘in good shape’.

Siemens retains IBA despite PR review

Siemens Nixdorf, the German-owned IT services company, has opted to

retain Ingleton-Beer Associates (IBA) to handle PR for its health

systems division. Last month the company launched a review of PR for the

division, which saw IBA repitch for the business along with Countrywide

and Arrow PR (PR Week, 19 April). IBA already handles PR for Siemens

Nixdorf’s other business units.

Rossiter leaves Labour’s Jackson for FH

Ann Rossiter, researcher to Labour MP Glenda Jackson, is to join

Fishburn Hedges as a consultant on public affairs and corporate PR

business. Rossiter takes up her new post at the agency early next month.

She has also been a researcher to John Denham, Labour’s spokesman on


BMA’s Roxan heads for Westminster

Westminster Public Relations has recruited Adrian Roxan, formerly deputy

head of public affairs at the British Medical Association, as a director

to expand its role in the health and local government sectors. Roxan

joined the BMA three years ago after working for the Health Education

Authority, Haringey Council, and local newspapers.

Jane Howard in the frame for Kodak

Jane Howard PR has been appointed by Kodak Processing to support the

launch of its Photo Story service, following a two-way pitch. The six

month project is thought to be worth around pounds 25,000. The Photo

Story service allows customers to have films developed and returned in

bound albums rather than in photo wallets.
