Woodward joins from the NHS Information Centre where he was head of media and corporate relations, responsible for all aspects of media relations, public affairs and stakeholder engagement. Prior to that, he spent four years in the communications team at the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Wooward will lead a team of five at NHS Diabetes and Kidney Care. He will be responsible for all internal and external communications and stakeholder management.

‘NHS Diabetes and Kidney Care is a dynamic organisation, which is really making a difference for people with diabetes and kidney disease,' said Woodward. ‘My role is to make sure that people are aware of the organisation's work to improve the quality of patient care and help the service develop more efficient and innovative ways of working.'

Woodward will report to national director Nicola Strother Smith. He takes over from Claire Austin, who has been filling the role on an interim basis.
