In a bid to raise money for charity the Children’s Society several
intrepid PR folk are setting off to walk along the Great Wall of China
next month.
The nine-day sponsored event will fund children in deprived communities
across the UK and Children’s Society senior communications officer
Nickie Durbin has managed to persuade five PR luminaries to join around
100 others on the arduous trek.
Alex Wise, PR manager at Hambro Assistance and Helen Donoghue, MD of
public affairs firm Central Lobby Consultants, are joined by Jackie
Boath and Hilary Whates of PR agency Just CCI and Judith Pattern who
runs her own PR firm. Together the five will raise around pounds 10,000
for the charity.
Durbin tells me that the charity has several more walks planned for next
year so it’s not too late to take part. Unfortunately, though, you will
have already missed the chance to meet a showbiz personality. Leading
actor Joe McGann, brother of Paul and star of sitcom the Upper Hand,
will be accompanying the PR clan on the first walk.
I just hope agency experience of building Chinese walls rather than
climbing them won’t confuse the walkers.
