Danish hearing instrument manufacturer Oticon has appointed
Shandwick Healthcare for a global PR brief.
The agency has been hired on a retained and project basis to boost the
company’s internal communications and external product and corporate PR.
It will also raise awareness of hearing problems and solutions in the
consumer market.
The account, which carries a six figure fee over a minimum ten-month
contract, was won following a three-way pitch. There was no
incumbent.
Shandwick will complement the company’s existing internal and external
marketing programmes, raising the awareness of Oticon’s products among
hearing specialists. Shandwick’s campaign will also target ear, nose and
throat professionals.
The agency is drawing up a global PR programme which will enable
Oticon’s sister companies, of which there are at least 17 around the
world, to tap into PR resources.
’One of the biggest challenges is making consumers aware that so many
people suffer from hearing impairment and to overcome the stigma
associated with wearing a hearing instrument,’ said Averill Gordon,
director of Shandwick Healthcare.
Grayling Scotland was hired by Oticon in June on a UK-wide remit to
conduct market research and handle consumer and trade PR.
