Diary: Hi-tech chief’s car fits the identikit for a computer crime

One step on from cause related marketing, Jonathan Simnett, director of hi-tech agency A Plus, believes he may have stumbled upon cause related crime.

One step on from cause related marketing, Jonathan Simnett,

director of hi-tech agency A Plus, believes he may have stumbled upon

cause related crime.

Simnett’s beloved Audi S2 estate has just been used as a getaway car,

following a ram raid on a Hounslow computer warehouse.

Taking up the tale, Simnett says: ’The men took off at 160mph with eight

computers in the back. The police realised they couldn’t keep up so they

called in a helicopter, which chased the car up the M3.

’The chase ended in that Mecca of computing, Bracknell, which had

inextricably pulled the car towards it.’

Simnett, whose motor is now being cared for by a Croydon mechanic, says

the crime raises pertinent questions.

’If a car belonging to a hi-tech agency person is used in a computer

theft, are vehicles owned by consumer agency people used to break into

cosmetic factories, or those owned by financial PRs used on banks? And

then there are thefts of incontinence supplies.’

We’ll stop there, I think.
