Consolidated Communications has appointed Graham Henson, former international brands director of Grand Metropolitan subsidiary IDV, to the board.

Consolidated Communications has appointed Graham Henson, former

international brands director of Grand Metropolitan subsidiary IDV, to

the board.

The move is part of a drive to bring senior marketers into the

integrated agency, and strengthen its strategic business planning and

brand building capability.

Henson will initially focus on Consolidated’s Virgin Direct business, a

fully integrated account covering public relations, direct marketing and

an pounds 8 million advertising campaign.

Board director Tom Wells said: ’Graham is used to working across the

marketing mix. We want to offer clients a level of expertise and

experience which perhaps people trained in public relations alone

wouldn’t have.’

’Agencies which have that level of thinking have a competitive

advantage, because that’s what clients are looking for,’ said

Henson.

Henson, who will manage the advertising and PR teams, reports to

Consolidated managing director Alastair Gornall. After spending ten

years at IDV, which owns brands such as Smirnoff vodka and Malibu,

Henson said he decided he was ready to move into a more tightly

controlled working environment.

’Consolidated offers a full communications mix,’ Henson said.

He said his decision was not connected with Grand Met’s impending merger

with Guinness which was announced three weeks ago.
