Flack: (Saving) on Expenses - Zilli Bar, Soho, London, W1

Reviewer: David Alexander, director, Calacus PR.

- What's it good for?

The 'Zilli Bites' menu at Zilli Bar has a typical array of authentic Italian cooking that caters for all tastes in a modern, vibrant setting in the heart of Soho.

Zilli Green, which opened next door earlier this year, is a rarity - an Italian vegetarian restaurant.

- Signature dishes?

Zilli is always associated with fish, but there are plenty of options for the more carnivorous or vegetarian palate. The common theme is simple, uncomplicated dishes, with vegetables naturally sourced from trusted local producers.

- Who's the boss?

Aldo Zilli is one of the most recognisable Italian chefs in the UK and happily chats to everyone during the evening session.

- Tips please?

Get a table near the entrance to watch the Soho world go by and, if you like strong flavours, the garlic pizza bread is the best you will taste.

- What's the damage?

Nibbles and side dishes start from £3.90, with main courses ranging from £5 for a small pasta dish to almost £20 for spaghetti and fresh lobster. Generally, two courses with a glass of wine should not exceed £20.

Zilli Bar, 41 Dean Street, London W1D 4PY, 020 7734 3924.
