PBP and Brunswick advise on Harrods, Bayley joins Lehman.

Pelham Bell Pottinger and Brunswick were on either side of the shock deal that saw Qatar Holdings snap up Harrods in a £1.5bn deal last weekend. PBP worked on media relations for the Qatari royal family's investment firm. Lazard, the bankers for the Al-Fayed family, retained Brunswick for the transaction.

Lehmann Communications has hired corporate PR heavyweight Alan Bayley to bolster its senior team. He joins the agency as relationship director, having previously been an executive director of McCann Erickson in Europe and the Far East. He also previously worked at Charles Barker City and was a co-founder of McAvoy Wreford Bayley.

Ofcom has appointed Clayton Hirst as director of communications. He replaces Julian Eccles, who is joining the FA as head of marketing and comms. Clayton will oversee communications with the media, the City, consumers and stakeholders, and also has responsibility for online and internal comms at the telecoms and broadcasting regulator. He was previously head of Ofcom's media and analyst relations team, and before that deputy business editor at The Independent on Sunday.

City & Country Group, the restoration and conservation expert, has handed a retained brief to PPS Group. PPS will manage its media profile at a local, regional and national level, including promoting homes for sale, corporate positions and stakeholder liaison.

RFIB Group, the Lloyds' insurance and re-insurance broker, has brought in Polhill Communications to handle its PR activity.
