NM Rothschild, the London end of the Rothschild family’s worldwide
investment banking business, is on the hunt for a new director of group
corporate affairs.
The job, which despite the impressive title is understood to carry a
salary of under pounds 100,000, had been filled previously by corporate
finance director Anthony Fry. He left in April to go to BZW. A high-
flying financier, Fry was given the additional PR brief following the
departure of John Antcliffe. But, according to one press report he
became ‘disillusioned’ with the role.
The bank has dithered over whether to appoint an external candidate or
to hire someone from within the corporate finance division.
The successful candidate will report directly to chairman Sir Evelyn de
Rothschild. One source described the role as rather like the chairman’s
personal assistant, although it will also involve liaison with the heads
of the other Rothschild businesses.
The bank has traditionally remained aloof from self-promotion, although
it does have a PR firm: Fishburn Hedges. In recent months it has been
the centre of considerable media interest following speculation about a
takeover and the suicide of Amschel Rothschild, head of the fund
management side of the business.
The group is also undergoing a major re-shuffle which will see more co
ordination of its fund management operations and corporate finance
activities worldwide.
