It's an interesting move that affirms what those of us in niche PR consultancies have known for decades - that what most clients are looking for is a PR team that really understands their business and their business sector.
That's why some of the smaller independent PR firms have endured. Precisely because they are sector specialists. And they have clients for whom that's a priority consideration.
Clients like a stable consultancy team that knows their industry thoroughly, talks their industry language from day one, and has good working relationships with the main journalists and editors covering the sector. It's the bedrock of a productive and mutually beneficial client/consultancy relationship that can survive for years or even decades.
This is especially true in the technology, industry and engineering fields, where learning curves are long.
Sector specialism is definitely the future. But for some of us, that's nothing new.
