Surgutneftegas has turned to Pelham Bell Pottinger to support its international media relations surrounding its acquisition of a 21.2 per cent stake in Hungarian oil and gas producer Mol.

The deal, valued at EUR1.4bn, ran into problems when Mol and the Hungarian regulator delayed registration after completion.

AXA Private Equity is being supported by The HeadLand Consultancy on its acquisition of a $1.9bn portfolio of investments in private equity funds from Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

DLA Piper, the international law firm, has appointed The PR Office to handle two of its seven EMEA practices. The agency will take on press office functions and media relations for DLA Piper's real estate practice and its intellectual property and technology practice, previously handled by Firefly. FD handled its real estate business until the end of 2008, when it was taken on by the in-house team with support from Grayling.

Anglian Water has hired Ciaran Nelson, previously head of the national press office at the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, as the utility firm's head of media.

He had been at the RSPB for five years, having joined from Lewis Communications.

Amadeus, the travel reservations firm, floated on the Spanish stock exchange last week, supported by FD.

In what was Europe's largest float this year, the firm raised more than EUR1.3bn, giving it a market capitalisation of EUR4.9bn.

A.T. Kearney, the global management consultancy firm, has called in corporate PR agency Rostrum Communications to raise its profile in the UK.
