The Liberal Democrats have hired Jane Bonham-Carter as director of media
communications to bolster their press team for the run-up to the general
She will work with director of strategy and planning Alan Leaman and
report to chief whip Archy Kirkwood MP.
It is the first time since Olly Grender left in May 1995 that the role
has been filled.
Bonham-Carter, who joins the party next month, has been editor of
Channel 4’s A Week in Politics for the past three years. She previously
worked on Newsnight and Panorama at the BBC.
‘We’re beefing up our act a bit at the top end,’ said Lib Dems head of
press and broadcasting Judith Fryer, who will report to Bonham-Carter.
