The Week in Charities

CARE International's head of comms Henrietta Yoxall has joined the Booktrust as head of marketing and comms. Booktrust is a national charity that encourages people of all ages and cultures to discover and enjoy reading.

Global Tolerance has signed up two account managers, bringing the total team to five. Kate Brightwell joins the ethical specialist from Fleishman-Hillard, where she was a consultant, to expand the agency's public affairs offering. Lance McPherson joins from the 'Power of 8', a global comms campaign with UN backing, where he was director of comms.

World Land Trust is using luxury specialist PA Media to launch a comms offensive to raise £350,000 so it can buy a piece of land in Borneo to save orang-utans. The agency will try to find corporate sponsors through trade media, handle TV and radio interviews and secure national press coverage for public donations.

RSPB has promoted Ciaran Nelson to media manager. Nelson was formerly Lewis PR's youngest ever partner before joining the bird charity in 2005. His boss, head of PR Paul Lewis, has laid down the gauntlet. 'I've challenged him to get us to the top of the NGO Watch table,' said Lewis. 'Twice this year we've finished second, only just behind the RSPCA.'
