Facebook used to beat criminals
Matt Cartmell 01-May-08
Greater Manchester Police is claiming to be the first police force in the country to use social networking site Facebook to fight crime.
A special application has been developed in-house by the force's web unit to raise awareness of local incidents and appeal for information.
Facebook members can install the application on their profile for regular updates.
The application provides users with real-time feeds about local news, appeals or 'missing persons' stories.
Users can also share news stories via a messaging service.
