Engineering body signs up lobbyist

The Royal Academy of Engineering has hired its first public affairs chief, handing the role to the former top lobbyist at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

Beverley Parkin has been appointed director of policy and public affairs at the body, which works to promote excellence and increase understanding of engineering.

The new post reflects the academy's drive to position engineering as a 'must-consult' profession on national public policy issues.

Parkin previously spent eight years as director of public affairs and comms for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, before leaving last March.
