Barack Obama. Politicians are rarely interesting, inspiring, successful and stylish. So far, Obama ticks all the boxes. A great cover story tends to be all these things - not always an easy combination to find.
- What is your biggest PR pet peeve?
When I get calls asking me who does what on the magazine. It is obvious they do not know the magazine or haven't had the gumption to buy a copy and look at the masthead.
- Of which story you have written during your career are you most proud?
I am proud of the Diana special I put together when editing the Sunday Times Style section. We put the whole tribute magazine together in three days after she died. I am also fond of a report I wrote for GQ magazine on the Old Firm. Before starting it, I knew nothing about football and now I only know about Scottish football, which people find odd.
- What are your media must-haves?
The summer is a bit crap for TV and Big Brother makes me want to throw up. But I enjoyed The Apprentice, Damages, The Wire and Skins. As for magazines, I turn to Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, London Review of Books and Fantastic Man. I've never recovered from the loss of Smash Hits.
- Are you keeping up with web 2.0, social media and blogs?
I committed Facebook suicide fairly early on in the game - I find it too banal being told that someone has a hangover, a new friend and intends to see Mamma Mia! I love YouTube though - you can hear songs within seconds and my children are always sending me links to absurdly stupid and funny film clips of other people's disasters.
