HEALTHCARE: Burson-Marsteller government relations director Frances Luff has quit to join GPC as senior policy adviser in the healthcare division. Luff, who joins in January, had been at B-M for three years. B-M is on the hunt for a replacement.

CONSUMER: Gillette has hired 360 deg Communications after a five-way pitch to promote its Duracell batteries, ending a 12-year link with MDPR/Mainspring. 360 co-founder Alison Saunders leads a five-strong team on the account.
TECHNOLOGY: Compuware Corporation has hired Nicola Alvey as UK PR manager to help raise the firm's corporate profile. She replaces Katharine Herman, who is now marketing programmes manager. Alvey will work closely with recently hired agency Spark Marketing Communications.
TECHNOLOGY: The Open Business Exchange, which allows firms to send and receive invoices in any format, is planning a media relations campaign across the UK and Europe. Brands2Life has been hired to handle the work, with co-founder Sarah Scales leading the work.

CITY: PNC Telecom founder Geremy Thomas is set to issue libel proceedings against the firm's retained PR agency Hansard Communications, PNC chairman Lord Stevens and the Evening Standard. CONSUMER: Jackie Cooper PR has promoted Remi Baker to the newly created post of MD. Baker had been deputy MD since August 2000 and has worked at JCPR since 1994.
CONSUMER: Digby Trout Restaurants has named HCP as its UK PR firm, handling 16 restaurants and cafes across London. The appointment follows HCP's work for the group's Court Restaurant, based in The British Museum.
