TECHNOLOGY: IT services firm Unisys has hired Emma Thompson as UK PR manager. Thompson joins from Beattie Media, where she was an account manager. At Unisys, she reports to head of comms Jill Pearcy.

AWARDS: Haslimann Taylor scooped two individual and six agency awards at the IPR's Midlands Cream Awards last week, including the Grand Prix prize for its work on snoring remedy Helps Stop Snoring. Birmingham Midshires' in-house team won four awards.
CORPORATE: A global survey of 1,000 corporate communications managers, conducted by Melcrum Publishing, has revealed that 64 per cent of respondents have seen their budgets decreased or frozen, while 55 per cent said their department had been restructured within the last year.
FINANCE: UK retail shareholders are demanding more communication from companies, according to a survey of 456 private investors by ProShare. Just 15 per cent of the 73 per cent that receive annual reports said they feel the reports are written with the private investor in mind.
TECHNOLOGY: Hotwire PR has won a brief to launch Amsterdam-based Palmtop Software's TomTom products. The agency will focus on TomTom navigator, a GPS personal navigation system for pocket PC devices.
SURVEY: Reputation is the most significant risk to business, according to a survey of 82 FTSE 500 company managers by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and the Risk Advisory Group. Respondents rated reputation above operations/market and terrorist/criminal risks.
