HEALTHCARE: Pharma giant Roche has handed Counsel a six-figure PR brief for market-leading indigestion treatment Rennie. The Huntsworth Group firm was appointed after a two-way pitch against incumbent Weber Shandwick Worldwide.
PUBLIC AFFAIRS: The Tobacco Manufacturers Alliance is to lose public affairs director John Carlisle at the end of this month. Carlisle will now work as an independent political consultant, having joined the TMA in 1997 after 18 years in Parliament. He will continue as ad hoc adviser to the TMA.
PUBLIC AFFAIRS: DLA Upstream has launched a planning communications practice to coincide with the Government's Green Paper on planning, published this week. The team, led by directors Steve John and Kevin Craig, advises on development projects in industrial and retail sectors.
CORPORATE: Mellon Global Investments, Mellon Financial's asset management arm, has hired Jamie Brooks as international corporate comms manager. He joins from LeggMason Investors, where he was head of marketing and corporate communications.
TECHNOLOGY: Tech PR firm AxiCom, led by MD Julian Tanner, has joined forces with Oxford-based direct marketing agency JHBS to provide a more complete promotional and sales service for UK and European tech companies.
FINANCIAL: Financial Services Authority director Christine Farnish is to address the IPR Corporate and Financial Group as guest speaker at a lunchtime meeting on 8 January. Farnish develops consumer policy at the FSA and previously acted as deputy general of Oftel.
SERVICES: The Event Lighting & Design Company, which handled the lighting for this week's world premiere of The Lord of the Rings, has appointed PR and marketing agency HCP. The consultancy will undertake trade and consumer PR work.
