News International's tabloid Sun on Sunday had a strong start to the year, with a monthly rise of 6.8% rise to take it above 2 million sales again.
The Independent's circulation has fallen by over a third in the past 12 months, while the Financial Times, Guardian and Daily Telegraph managed slight month-on-month circulation increases in December.
The Sun on Sunday has fallen below the two million circulation mark for the first time, sinking 6% between November and December, and losing 1.3 million from its headline circulation since its 2012 launch.
Financial Times lost 3.9% of its circulation, according to the latest newspaper ABCs.
October brought further strife for The Sun's daily and Sunday editions, while boosting the cut-price daily i by 7.7%, according to the latest ABC national newspaper circulation figures.
