Aeroflot, Russia's biggest airline, has brought in Ogilvy PR London as its first pan-European press office.

The move comes as the carrier tries to shake off its 'Aeroflop' tag and double its passenger numbers by 2015.

Ogilvy will work as the first point of contact for journalists across Europe, communicating news stories to consumer, business and travel outlets. Previously, journalists were forced to deal with Aeroflot's press office in Moscow.

Aeroflot, which marked its 85th anniversary in February, previously used Ogilvy in 2007 to support its bid for Italian carrier Alitalia - which Aeroflot later pulled out of.

Ogilvy account handler Katharina Winkler said the agency would be dealing with stories such as Aeroflot's expansion plans, fleet overhauls and the construction of a new terminal at the chaotic Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow. The team of three will also be setting up press trips.

The account is to be held until the end of the year, although Ogilvy will bid to keep it longer.
