Valeant calls in Medicom for rosacea brief
Walkley: in charge of account
Gemma O'Reilly 15-May-08
Healthcare shop Medicom Group has been hired by drug firm Valeant Pharma for a disease awareness campaign around the skincare condition rosacea.
Medicom won the account following a competitive pitch.
Rosacea can affect one in ten UK adults in their 30s and onwards. In its early stages rosacea is typified by facial flushing, redness and often pimples in the central part of the face.
Medicom is charged with developing a disease awareness website to increase knowledge of the condition and encourage people who may be affected to get their symptoms properly diagnosed by their GP.
The agency will also work with skincare specialists to act as spokespeople during the campaign.
The account will be headed up by Medicom director Susan Walkley who will report to Valeant product manager, Dermatology, Northern Europe & France Nina Bentley.
'Our research identified that there is a lack of information about the condition,' said Walkley. 'There are a number of websites with product-specific information but not enough general information. Many people are unfamiliar with the signs and symptoms and may not think to approach their GP.'
