Defence and home affairs correspondent Matthew Hickley joins from the newspaper in October. He has held the role since 1999.
Prior to that he was a news reporter at the Mail and has also worked as a reporter at the Eastern Daily Press.
Hickley will lead Blue Rubicon's media training work as well as advise across its client portfolio and account teams.
Hickley replaces Tim McCoy who was recently appointed to the newly-created role of head of comms at Starbucks in the UK.
