PR agency wins 'pro bono' case against AIDS charity
Clare 06-May-08
An East Sussex PR agency has successfully sued an AIDS charity for unpaid fees.
Shaw PR took African AIDS Action to court after the Essex-based registered charity failed to pay for the agency's work.
Shaw PR founder George Shaw and his team worked on behalf of the charity in November and December last year, securing newspaper coverage ahead of World AIDS Day. In court, African AIDS Action director Eyob Ghebre-Sellassie claimed the work had been done on a pro bono basis but did not produce evidence of any such agreement.
George Shaw said he took legal action as a warning to any other marcoms companies who may be approached by the charity.
