Flynn: associate director

Healthcare shop Axon Communications has poached Cancer Research UK's head of media relations to join its team as associate director.

Peter Flynn joins the agency next month after six years at Cancer Research UK. He previously worked at BBC Radio in as in a news production role.

At Axon, he will work closely with agency director Clare Lucker on UK regulatory issues. In particular, he will be responsible for liaising with National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) should any of the agency's clients appeal against a NICE ruling.

Flynn's appointment reflects the expansion in the amount of media and stakeholder relations work the agency has won.

It follows the hire of former Ruder Finn director Laura Aplin earlier this year

Aplin was brought on board to spearhead a global drive for new business. Her previous experience included an eight-year stint at Ruder Finn as director, overseeing its international and domestic business at the agency's New York and London offices.

Axon specialises in PR, medical comms and clinical research activity for clients including pharma firms AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.
