Tory MP applauds Alzheimer’s body

A Conservative MP has heaped praise on the Alzheimer’s Society for the quality of its lobbying.

Shadow junior health minister Anne Milton told the House of Commons last week: ‘I… pay tribute to the Alzheimer’s Society for its lobbying. As MPs, we are constantly lobbied by organisations, but the society has been significantly more effective than many others.’

She said the charity had been influential in getting the new all-party group on dementia off the ground.

The Alzheimer’s Society’s public affairs work is carried out by a team led by head of policy and campaigns Andrew Chidgley.

Last week the society was named NGO Department of the Year at the PRWeek Awards.

The charity’s senior campaigns manager Vicki Combes said it had achieved its aims through meetings with groups of MPs, written briefings for individual MPs and arranging meetings between MPs and their constituents.
