Professor Anne Gregory, director of Leeds Metropolitan University's Centre for Public Relations Studies, has been appointed pro-vice-chancellor of the university.
The appointment was announced last week by Leeds Met vice-chancellor Professor Simon Lee.
In her new role Gregory - who was CIPR president in 2004 - will focus on developing partnerships and the university's relations with stakeholders in Yorkshire and London.
Her day-to-day responsibilities at the Centre for Public Relations Studies remain unaffected.
She told PRWeek: ‘This is proof that PR people can get very senior jobs in organisations.'
