Inventing America, a year-long festival celebrating American culture

starting in January.

Ruth Hasnip, the Barbican’s director of public affairs, feels her

five-strong in-house team needs help in promoting the event in the US

and Europe.

Hasnip’s in-house team will run the UK PR for the event.

The Barbican is investing pounds 3 million on music, theatre, opera,

cinema and technology to reflect American themes.

The Barbican does not have a retained agency but since her arrival at

the Barbican two months ago Hasnip has established several new PR and

corporate sponsorship initiatives. She is currently seeking a press

officer to focus on the Barbican’s theatre issues.

The Barbican is placing a greater emphasis on public relations as the

Barbican managing director John Tusa attempts to raise its national

profile.
