Guardian News & Media appoints Nick Allan in new head of comms role

Guardian News & Media (GNM) has raided Portland PR to fill its new head of communications post.

Nick Allan, Portland’s associate director, will oversee both internal and external comms for the publisher of The Guardian, Observer and guardian.co.uk, taking a co-ordinated approach to the two disciplines. Allan will head up a team of six.
 
GNM is the main subsidiary of the Guardian Media Group (GMG). Allan will report to the GNM’s MD Tim Brooks and GMG's comms director Chris Wade.

Wade said: ‘Heading up an already strong team, he will play a central role in promoting GNM's journalism and brands, and in driving the company's internal communications strategy.’

Allan has previously been a press secretary at the British Embassy in Washington, head of press and communications at the British Embassy in Paris, and senior press officer to foreign secretary Robin Cook.
