1 Andy Duncan
Duncan's departure from Channel 4 was undoubtedly the most highly anticipated move of the year. The former Unilever spreads and cooking products director (he was sometimes unkindly dubbed 'the margarine man' by critics) turned C4 chief executive was a welcome poster-boy for marketers aiming for the top.
2 Jeremy Schwartz
Schwartz was appointed as chief marketing officer of News International in January, only to leave the company after eight months in the role.
3 Mark Lund
Lund, the chief executive and 'L' in the name of ad agency DLKW, was appointed chief executive of the COI in February. He took over the reins from industry veteran Alan Bishop, who left the government marketing body to join the Southbank Centre.
4 Gill Barr
Barr, the marketing director of John Lewis, was made redundant in March as part of the retailer's paring of its management board. She left the affable Craig Inglis as the most senior marketer at the department store group.
5 Nigel Gilbert
In October, Gilbert, marketing director at Lloyds Banking Group, announced plans to leave the company at the end of the year. He was the marketer responsible for the bank's successful 'For the journey' marketing strategy.
