The British Retail Consortium has reported worse than expected November retail trading figures with like-for-like sales growing just 1.8 per cent last month. Novembers' figures mark a decline on retail performance in October which saw a 3.8 per cent rise in sales.

UK charities are under threat from a funding crisis that could see a number of charities merge according to a new study by Baker Tilly. According to the report, one in three charities is considering merging with another charity while one in six are considering joining a commercial organisation to ensure its survival.

Tesco has posted weaker results than expected with like-for-like sales rising by just 2.8 per cent in the 13 weeks to 28th November, failing to meet the predicted 3 per cent increase. The sales performance was lower than that achieved in the second quarter, in which the retailer enjoyed a 3.1 per cent like-for-like sales growth.

Google has announced plans to prominently display results from social networking sites in its search pages, in a bid to fend off competition from smaller information sources such as Twitter. The "real-time search" development aims to bring users more up-to-date information when searching the web.
