LONDON - Brand Republic rounds up the week's people moves across the advertising, marketing and media industries, including a new commercial director at ShortList and a new director of consumer marketing at Skype.
Advertising
Matt Shepherd-Smith, the TBWA\London chief executive, has resigned. (Campaign)
A pair of Fallon executives has broken away from the agency to launch a start-up, likely to be backed by the Freeview account. Jonathan Trimble, a group director, and Matt Keon, an award-winning creative, are behind the venture, along with an as yet unnamed third member. (Campaign)
David Patton, the chief executive of Grey London, has been promoted to president and chief executive of Grey Group EMEA. Chris Hirst, the agency's managing director, will replace Patton as its chief executive. (Campaign)
Digital
Associated Northcliffe Digital has appointed Garry Hobson as chief executive of Motors.co.uk. Starting in December, Hobson will replace Andrew Dyson, who is leaving after three years to take a new position within Associated Northcliffe Digital, which will be announced in January. (Media Week)
Spotify has turned to the mobile industry to recruit new chief technology officer Oskar Stal. Stal joins Spotify from mBlox, a company that specialises in mobile phone transactions. (Brand Republic)
Nicole Vanderbilt has left Bebo to become chief executive at online homewares business Mydeco.com. Vanderbilt joined Bebo in September 2008, taking up the role of international vice-president. (Brand Republic)
Iris Digital has brought in a UK managing director, appointing LBi client partner Tom Poynter, and made joint managing directors George Nimeh and John Baker regional directors. Nimeh and Baker will head Iris Digital's operations in Europe and the US respectively. (Brand Republic)
Marketing
Skype has appointed Juliet Blackburn as director of consumer marketing from the AAR. Blackburn joins Skype in a newly created role from the intermediary, where she has worked as business director with responsibility in digital for nine years. (Marketing)
Vue Entertainment has appointed Ben Caunter as marketing manager, reporting into Daniel Heale, head of marketing. (Marketing)
Media
ShortList, the men's free weekly publication, has appointed former head of trading at Associated Newspapers, Georgina Turner, to the new role of commercial director. She will report to Karl Marsden, managing director of ShortList's parent company ShortList Media, who is taking on a larger role in the operations side of the business. (Media Week)
Discovery has appointed Mark Hollinger as head of its international TV arm, Discovery Networks International, replacing Greg Ricca. Hollinger makes a sideways move across Discovery: at present he is chief operating officer of Discovery Communications, the parent company of DNI. His appointment is effective immediately. Virgin Media has appointed Aleks Habdank as director of its on-demand TV services.
Habdank joins from pay-TV content company, Chellomedia, where he was general manager of Chello-on-demand. (Media Week)
The BSkyB executive credited as the driving force behind the launch of its high-definition, 3D and Sky+ digital video recorder technologies, Brian Sullivan, is to leave the company. (Media Week)
Discovery Networks International has appointed former MTV executive Alden Mitchell to a combined international sales and digital media role. Mitchell has been named vice-president, UK affiliate sales and business development, as well as vice-president, commercial, digital media. (Media Week)
Stefano Hatfield, former editor of thelondonpaper, has been appointed to the new role of director of ventures at The Times. (Media Week)
GQ associate publisher Rupert Turnbull has been appointed publisher of Wired, replacing Jamie Jouning who was promoted to the post of publisher of Condé Nast Digital last month. (Media Week)
Mel Nichols, Haymarket Consumer Media's editorial director, is stepping down after 22 years with the company. He will be replaced by Mark Payton on 1 January, who will be responsible for all Haymarket Consumer Media's print and digital content. Payton has been digital editorial director, reporting to Nichols, since 2007. (Media Week)
The Radio Advertising Bureau has appointed Mediaedge:cia account director Katherine Dunham to the new position of strategy consultant for the nations and regions. (Media Week)
